What Can You Sew from a Meter of Fabric?

I am sure I am not alone: over time, many sewists build up a stash of remnants because they bought extra fabric, had a meter left over, or found a useful offcut on sale.

And while smaller scraps are more or less straightforward—you can use them for potholders, patchwork, napkins, etc.—what do you do with one-meter remnants?

Here is a small collection of ideas to help turn that leftover meter of fabric into a useful project.

These ideas generally work for garments up to Russian size 50. Actual fabric requirements depend on fabric width, pattern layout, and design details; larger sizes may need more than one meter.

So, from one meter you can sew:

• a straight or A-line skirt

• shorts

• a sheath dress or strappy summer dress

• a tank top or cami

• a camisole-and-shorts pajama set

• a bodysuit

• decorative nursery pillows kept outside an infant's sleep area
