I Want to Sew a Pleated or Accordion-Pleated Skirt — Need Advice
Back in the '50s and '60s, pleated and accordion-pleated skirts were at the height of fashion. But fashion is cyclical. And these days, that kind of outfit looks very modern and stylish. I came up with the idea of sewing myself a summer pleated or accordion-pleated skirt. You know, the kind that goes to the floor, solid-colored, romantic. I went to the fabric store.
And alas... nothing was right, nothing worked out. Either the pleats weren't the right kind, or the pattern on the fabric was in some eye-searing color combination. There was one fabric that was more or less decent — silk with fine accordion pleats. But it was... scarlet red. Basically, I realized my dream was slipping further away ((.
On top of that, I got stuck on something — okay, fine, say I find this pleated/accordion fabric and buy it. But what would I make the waistband out of? Also pleated? Has anyone sewn something like this for themselves? Is it worth the trouble? Or should I just look for a ready-made skirt?

В 50-ые и 60-ые годы юбки плиссе и гофре были на пике популярности. Но, мода циклична. И сейчас такие наряды смотрятся очень современно и стильно. Я придумала сшить себе летнюю юбку плиссе или гофре. Такую, знаете, в пол, однотонную, романтичную. Отправилась за тканью в магазин.
И увы... Все не то, и все не так. То складочки не такие, то рисунок по ней запущен в цветовой гамме “вырви глаз”. Одна более менее нормальная ткань была — шелк в мелкую гармошку. Но он... алого цвета. В общем, я поняла, что реализация мечты уходит вдаль ((.
К тому же меня заклинило — ну ладно, найду я эту плиссе/гофре, куплю. А из чего я пояс делать буду? Тоже - в складочку? Кто-нибудь шил себе нечто подобное? Стоит ли связываться? Или нужно искать готовую юбку?
Honestly, I never really understood the difference either before. Pleated, accordion-pleated — to me it was all pretty much the same. It's like when my husband recently asked me about a taxi: look out the window, is that a sedan or a wagon that pulled up? And I look and realize the only thing I can name is the color of the car 🤭
