How to fix a tight neckline
Not long ago I shared a method for reducing the height of a collar, and today I want to talk about what to do if a sweater's neckline has become too tight after washing. This happens if the item was washed in hot water or with an unsuitable detergent. Instead of reknitting the entire collar, I suggest adding neat inserts, which will also add a unique touch to the garment.

To do this, choose a piece of knit fabric, perhaps from a sturdy t-shirt. The color doesn't have to match the sweater perfectly; it could even be a printed material.
Cut the collar along the seam and make a neat cut between the stitches on the opposite side.

Cut out 2 double wedges, matching the height of the collar.

Pin them right sides together, sew the top edge, turn them right side out, and press lightly. Baste them to the collar along the cut.

Join the insert and the collar using a sewing machine or by hand.

You can use the same method to widen the sides of the sweater and the cuffs.
For the opposite neckline problem, see the guide on fixing a stretched-out neckline.
