How to update and resize a cardigan

In winter, it's nice to throw on a soft knit cardigan. This wardrobe staple is great not just for lounging at home, but also for work or school. If your cardigan feels a bit plain or boring, you can easily transform it using materials you have on hand: leftover lace and strips of coordinating fabric. The project will take an hour at most, and you'll have a new piece in your closet that didn't cost a penny! By the way, you can also use this method to size up a garment by a couple of sizes!

## How to update a knit cardigan

First, remove the buttons. If they are plain, choose new ones that better match in color and size. Measure the length of the front panel and add 4-5 cm. Cut the lace (accounting for the neckline finish) and two strips of knit fabric of your desired width. If you need to resize the cardigan, add 2-5 cm to the width of the strips.

Place the lace on the right side of the front panels and pin it in place. Sew a straight stitch using a sewing machine.

Fold the finishing strips in half lengthwise and sew them on as well. Topstitch to finish.

INTERESTING! For the closure, you can sew buttonholes on your machine, or you can leave the cardigan without buttons. In the latter case, it will look very original worn over a trendy blouse, tank top, or turtleneck.
