How to repair a burnt carpet

Carpet is a unique flooring material used not only for insulation but also for interior decoration. The advantage of carpet is that it retains its color and texture for many years. However, it has its drawbacks. Such material melts easily, so it can be left with numerous marks from sparklers, embers falling from a fireplace, or an unextinguished cigarette. As a result, unsightly marks like these remain on the carpet.

To avoid replacing the entire carpet, there is an excellent way to restore burnt areas, which anyone with such flooring can handle.

For the restoration work, we will need:

• glue gun;
• waterproof, quick-setting glue;
• utility knife;
• scissors;
• glue brush.

Using manicure scissors, remove the melted and burnt fibers. It is important to perform this procedure very carefully so as not to damage the carpet backing.

In an area of the room where the carpet is not visible to others or even to you (under a sofa, behind an armchair, etc.), cut off a small piece of intact pile from the edge. Chop the pile into small pieces using the same scissors.

Apply hot glue to the problem area (the deepest part) and place the majority of the chopped fibers onto it. Gently press the restoration area with the handles of the scissors so that the fibers set into the glue. After that, apply hot glue with the glue gun to the areas where the damage is less noticeable, and place the remaining fibers. Leave the problem area for a few minutes for the glue to set completely.

Using small scissors, trim the glued fibers so they do not stand out against the rest of the carpet. Done, our carpet looks as good as new!
