DIY Gel Air Freshener: Safety and Assembly Guide
This is an archive idea for a gel air freshener. A mixture of gelatin, glycerin, and fragrance is for scenting a room only, not for eating, drinking, or applying to skin.

What you need
- 20 g instant gelatin
- 300 ml water
- 25 g glycerin
- a fragrance blend or essential oil in the amount stated on its label
- a clean, sturdy container that will not be used for food
For colour, use only a colourant appropriate for a non-food decorative mixture; do not add gouache or unknown materials. Label the container and do not reuse it for food or drinks.
Assembly and use
Dissolve the gelatin in warm water as its packet directs. Heat only as much as needed to dissolve it, and do not leave a hot mixture unattended. Once it is barely warm, add the glycerin and fragrance, transfer the mixture to its labeled container, and let it set.
Keep the air freshener out of reach of children and pets. Do not taste it, apply it to skin, get it in the eyes, or place it near food. Fragrances and essential oils can irritate sensitive people; ventilate the room and stop using it if the scent causes discomfort. Discard the mixture if its colour, smell, or appearance changes.

The reply recommended a small essential-oil pendant and claimed that oils such as eucalyptus, mint, lemon, orange, rose, lavender, and tea tree would keep microbes away. [Editor's safety note: Do not rely on essential oils or a fragrance pendant to prevent infection. Keep concentrated oils away from children and pets, avoid ingestion and eye contact, and stop use if the fragrance causes irritation or breathing discomfort.]
