Can you help me with a pattern?
Dear crafters, I have a question: is it possible to copy a pattern from a ready-made girl's dress? I don't know how to draft patterns at all, but the dress is so cute, and I'd love to make one for my daughter.

Дорогие мастерицы, обращаюсь к вам с таким вопросом: можно ли снять выкройку с готового платья на девочку? Я кроить не умею от слова совсем, а платьице милое, хотелось бы сделать такое же дочке.

Ninel, it's hard to answer since there's no photo of the dress. If the design is simple enough, I can suggest 2 ways to do it without much hassle (you won't need to rip anything apart) 😉.
Method 1: using tracing paper
Lay the item out on a flat surface; if it's a table, you need to spread a blanket or a thick towel over it. This is so it's convenient to use pins. Next, I advise turning your dress inside out, so the placement of the seams is more visible. Pin the item down, cover it with tracing paper, and trace over it with a tracing wheel.
If you don't have one, don't worry, you can do it with a regular marker too. Don't forget to add registration marks - points where the shoulder line and sleeve meet, etc.
Method 2: using a needle and regular paper
This will work if you don't have tracing paper on hand (it's hard to find where we are). In that case, take some old wallpaper or tape together a few sheets of A4 paper. Place the smoothed-out item onto this base and "prick" along the contours of each piece with a thick needle.
All that's left is to trace them with a marker or pen.
One more thing you need to consider: make sure you are sewing the dress from roughly the same material as the sample. That is, you shouldn't cut a pattern from cotton if it was originally knit, and vice versa. Good luck, I hope you'll share the finished result!
