How to Add a Removable Ruffle Trim to a Denim Skirt

If you have a favorite denim mini skirt in your wardrobe that you want to refresh, you can add an interesting ruffle trim in just half an hour. This decoration is done by hand, so you won't even need a sewing machine. Another plus is that the ruffle can be removed at any time; for example, it can turn back into a classic model without any frills right after a party.

What you need to create the decor

We will be sewing a pleated ruffle from a sheer fabric with a non-fraying edge. This could be leftover guipure lace, mesh, tulle, organza, or lace. The width of the strip is up to you; in the photo, it is 10 cm.

Cut and trim your ruffle fabric; the length should be about 1.5 to 2 times the width of the skirt. Make pleats by hand and baste them, leaving 1 cm from the top edge of the mesh. Pin or baste it to the inside of the skirt.

Choose strong thread that matches the garment; in the example, red thread is used for better visibility. Sew it on by hand using a blanket stitch.

At the end of the seam, release the thread from the loop—now it can be easily unraveled from the front, but it holds the ruffle firmly in place.

Что нужно для создания декора

Мы будем шить оборку в складку из прозрачной материи с несыпучим краем. Это может быть остаток гипюра, сетки, фатина, органзы, кружева. Ширина полоски - по желанию, на фото она составляет 10 см.

Итак, отрезаем и выравниваем будущую оборку, по длине она должна составлять ширину юбки, умноженную примерно на 1,5 -2 Вручную делаем складки и сметываем их, отступив от верхнего края сетки 1 см. Прикалываем или приметываем с изнаночной стороны юбки.

Подбираем прочные нитки в тон изделию, на образце они красные, чтобы лучше было видно. Пришиваем вручную петельным швом.

В конце шва освобождаем нить из петельки - теперь она легко распускается с лицевой стороны, но крепко держит оборку.
