Decorative Pillow with a 3D Rose

Time to sort through the closet and clear shelves for your spring wardrobe! Instead of throwing things away, let's turn old t-shirts and shirts into beautiful room decor. A pillow with a 3D rose will brighten up any bedroom or living room.

For the base, we will use scrap fabric; upholstery scraps, thin denim, or shirting fabric work well. First, assemble a patchwork block of the required size from these pieces.

If you have a 50x50 cm piece of fabric, you can use that. For the back of the pillow, choose a material that harmonizes in color with the front.

Prepare the rose petals. From old knitwear or other non-fraying fabric, cut circles of arbitrary size, fold them in half, and baste along the fold.

You can speed up the process by using a sewing machine with the widest stitch length and loosening the thread tension. Slightly gather all the petals to create a curved shape.

Mark the outer contour of the flower on the front of the pillow. We will sew from the outside to the center without basting. Stitch the petals on one by one using a zigzag stitch so they hold better. After completing a full circle, move a few centimeters inward and stitch the second layer of the rose, slightly overlapping the first.

The central petals are harder to sew by machine, so do this by hand.

Once the rose is fully attached, join the front and back parts of the pillow and sew them together.

If you wish, you can add a pocket (if you intend to use the pillow cover) or leave an opening, stuff the pillow, and sew it shut by hand. Huge thanks to Polly Stitch for the idea.
