Sew a gorgeous beach dress in just half an hour

Say what you will, but summer is coming, the vacation season is here, and of course, it's time for relaxing by the river, lake, or sea. Naturally, we want to look unique on the beach. To sew a beautiful beach dress and look like a queen, you'll need at most half an hour and minimal sewing skills.

To sew this dress, you will need:

• sewing supplies;
• elastic band (you can replace it with satin bias tape, but the dress is more comfortable to wear with elastic);
• lightweight summer fabric of your choice.

When choosing fabric for this dress, it is better to opt for a material that drapes easily. I chose a staple fabric with a simple floral print.

Depending on your body type, you will need a piece from 1.5 m to... 🥰 Just kidding. Actually, determining the necessary width is simple: multiply your bust circumference by 1.5 and add 5 cm. This is the width if you want the dress to have a closed back. If you want the dress to have an open back, add 15 cm instead of 5.

The length depends on the desired length of the finished garment. For my height of 162 cm and a standard figure (size 46-48), I needed a piece 1.52/1.25 cm. I ended up with a beach dress that is almost floor-length.

The dress pattern is built almost by eye; the main thing is to maintain the correct armhole radius, as shown in the diagram.

You can cut the fabric either laid out flat or by folding the material in half.

Finish the edges of the pattern with a serger or zigzag stitch and hem them.

You don't have to hem the armholes; you can just finish them (we will be processing them further anyway).

To make the dress straps and finish the armholes at the same time, take an elastic band and stitch it onto the right side of the armholes. It is important to measure the band so there is enough for the shoulder strap and the armhole finish. It is best to join the elastic band in the underarm area (this will look neater). As a result, you will get an elastic loop-strap.

The dress is finished!

Now for the most important part: how do you wear this beach dress? It's simple. Put one strap over one shoulder, wrap the dress around yourself, and put your other arm through the second loop-strap.

Fit note: before cutting the final fabric, check the length and elastic placement on your body or on a similar dress, especially if the fabric stretches.
