Why does my sewing machine make noise?

Inspired by a problem that seemed to come out of nowhere today: my sewing machine started making a strange, unusual noise while I was working. I found and fixed the issue quickly, but I wanted to share how to handle this situation. 😉
The first thing to do is stop working immediately, no matter what stage you are at. Next, we will look into the possible causes of these unusual sounds together.
The most common cause is a lack of timely maintenance. I recommend starting with cleaning and oiling—it will only benefit your machine. Clean the bobbin case and the feed dog teeth to remove thread scraps, dust, and fabric lint. You can find instructions on how to properly clean and oil your specific machine in its user manual.
If cleaning and oiling don't solve the problem, let's dig deeper. 🙂
First, check if the needle is hitting the edge of the needle plate hole. This can happen if the needle is bent or if the needle bar has shifted from its original position. If the bar has shifted due to a loose screw, tighten it. If that doesn't help, you will need professional assistance.
Next, check if the feed dog is misaligned, causing it to hit the needle plate. Unscrew the feed dog mount and reinstall it.
If everything looks fine there, check the bobbin case leaf spring. If it is broken, you will need to contact a service center.
The last thing that comes to mind is the presser foot being set to the wrong height, causing the needle bar to hit it during operation and create a characteristic noise. Simply reinstall the presser foot at the correct height and everything should be fine. 😉
Although I have listed about 90% of the reasons for unusual noise in a sewing machine, there are some issues that cannot be identified without disassembling your machine. If you still haven't been able to eliminate the noise, contact a service center. Mine is still under warranty... We're waiting, and I really need it right now. 🙁
