How to replace a fur coat hook
Hello everyone! As always, winter arrived unexpectedly (( I went to put on my fur coat and discovered that one of the hook fasteners is broken. It is sewn from the inside, under the lining. I bought a new hook, but I'm afraid of messing it up. I don't want to take a bulky fur coat to a workshop just for one hook. Crafters, please tell me how to replace the hook correctly!

Replacing a hook is not a difficult job. Of course, provided your fur coat isn't too old 🙂. The main thing is that the leather base (pelt) is intact and not cracking.
The first thing you need to do is check if the bottom of the lining is sewn to the fur coat. If it is loose (not sewn), the task is simplified. The repair can be done without ripping the lining. If the bottom of the lining is sewn to the coat, then to get to the hook, it is better to rip the lining along the edge, next to the hook.
I will show you how to replace the hook using the example of a fur coat with a lining that is not sewn at the bottom. The initial situation is photo 1. By turning back the lining, we see that access to the hook is blocked by the basting seam of the tape (photo 2). After ripping these threads, we turn back the facing. We have reached the hook – photo 3.
By the way, you can see here that the hook was sewn on poorly. (( Carefully remove it – photo 4. Insert the new hook into the same spots (photo 5). Sew on the hook (photo 6). It is better to use thicker and stronger threads (for example, 70L).
Then restore everything you "dismantled." Sew the facing back (photo 7). Then secure the tape (photo 8). That's it! The new hook is sewn in (photo 9)!
