What to make from an old fur coat
If you've been crafting for many years, throwing away an old item becomes an impossible task. That's how houses end up filled with fabric scraps, leftover yarn, and items meant for "I'll repurpose this later." 😂 But, alas, there's never enough time for everything, or the right ideas just don't come to mind.
I'm currently having exactly that kind of creative crisis.
I have two rabbit fur coats, sizes 44-46. They are factory-made. One is German, the other is Czech. One is made of black dyed rabbit, the other of grey, undyed rabbit. The coats have varying degrees of wear—on the sleeves, the edges of the fronts, and the pockets. On the grey one, the seams of the patches it was sewn from have become visible over time.
A few years ago, I took the grey one apart, intending to sew a vest. But the process didn't really take off. Apparently, I lacked the theoretical preparation.
Please help with some advice: what can I sew from this treasure? 😕
If the pieces are really not good for anything, you could sew a "leopard skin" rug for the floor. Well, in your case, given the color, it would more likely be a cougar)) 😊
Although, you could use hair dye to paint leopard spots onto the gray background. It's best to make round templates of different diameters and move them around to paint the whole skin. Then wash it off carefully and let it dry.
However, do this after cutting and sewing so that the pattern ends up in the right places.
Cut the front paws, back paws, and tail from the sleeves.
Cut out the head using these patterns:
When cutting, you need to consider the direction of the fur so that the hairs lie correctly, in one direction (from nose to tail).
Stitch the side parts of the nose and head together. Use the letter marks on the pattern as a guide.
Sew the bottom parts of the head and the chin together. Attach the nose, eyes, and you can make whiskers out of fishing line. Sew the ear pieces together. Then you can sew the whole head. Stuff it with filler.
And finally, the whole "skin" should be attached to a thick lining, like wool fabric. That way it will be neater and warmer.
