A Second Life for Old Fur: Knitting a Hat from Fur Strips

A warm fur hat looks great with a winter jacket or coat. Instead of buying an expensive item at the store, you can knit a hat from strips of fur yourself.

The model presented is a youthful hat with earflaps, which is very popular this season. To knit it from leftover fur and yarn, you will need:

1. Yarn - 2 skeins of 100 g each.
2. 3.5 mm knitting needles.
3. Crochet hook.
4. Short-pile fur scraps or an old garment that can be repurposed.
5. Needle and thread.

## Work Process

Step 1

Knit a flat piece using brioche stitch with double yarn. Sew the back seam, leaving the top of the hat open.

## Step 2

Prepare the fur. On the leather side (pelt), mark strips 1.5 cm wide.

Carefully cut them with a utility knife.

## Step 3

Sew one end of the strip to the bottom of the hat, folding the edge inward. Attach a safety pin to the other end. Use the pin to pull the fur through the first knit stitch at the base of the hat.

## Step 4

Pulling through the knit "braids," wrap them with fur, turning the strip so that the leather side remains inside. If a strip is too short, you can sew on another piece as you work.

## Assembly

Turn the finished hat inside out and sew the top part in a straight line, slightly gathering the center. To make the item look "fluffy," brush the finished hat with a soft brush, moving in different directions.
