Storage Systems for Tailor's Pins and Needles: DIY Guide
Every seamstress has a collection of needles of various thicknesses and sizes, as well as pins and other essential notions. To keep them handy, you need a convenient storage system and a pincushion. I suggest making them from a wet wipe pack lid, while also reducing the amount of waste we throw away.
What you will need:
- Wet wipe pack lid.
- 25 cm of ribbon.
- Scraps of felt or other thick fabric.
- Thin lace or trim for decoration.
- Velcro fastener.
- Optional decorations.
- Hot glue.
## Wrist Pincushion
Remove the lid from the wet wipe pack and turn it over so the open side is facing up. Place the ribbon inside the resulting "container".
Roll up a piece of thick polyester batting to fit the size of the box, or use another suitable filler. Secure it with hot glue.
Apply hot glue around the perimeter of the lid and cover the batting with a piece of felt. Secure it firmly and trim any excess.
Next, glue both halves together and decorate the top using lace or trim. Hide the seam under a bright button or, as shown in the photo, a small bow.
The final touch is to sew the Velcro onto the ribbon. Now you can try on the accessory—your wrist pincushion is ready.
## Storage System for Pins and Needles
This piece can complement a box or container used for storing thread spools, measuring tapes, and other small items. Simply glue the lid on, and decorate the top with fabric, lace, beads, etc.
All that's left is to put your needles and pins inside and snap the lid shut. What storage methods do you use?
I would wear such a pincushion on my hand not across, but lengthwise – with the long side along the wrist. But overall, the idea is interesting; I happen to be running out of that kind of packaging with a window – I might as well give it a try )
