How to choose fabric for sewing skirts

Choosing fabric for sewing a skirt directly depends on the style of the finished garment. Today I'll try to briefly explain which material to use specifically in your case. Let's go! 😉

Full-circle and half-circle**

For these models, chiffon, light wool, cotton, batiste, and in some cases – knit.

## Pencil skirt

Any fabric that holds its shape well will work. Depending on the type and number of darts, the material can be either with added elastane or without. Pay attention to heavy knit, corduroy, tweed, cotton, suiting fabrics, leather and faux leather.

## Tulip

Pay attention to soft, well-draping fabrics. As a rule, tulip skirts are sewn from cotton with a small amount of synthetics, but you can also use satin or viscose.

## Pleated skirt

Recommendations are similar to the «tulip»; the only difference is that the fabric should be denser, because soft material holds its shape worse.

## Slim skirt

For form-fitting models, use knit fabrics and soft lace. They don't restrict movement, keep their shape well (don't stretch out) and accentuate all the body's curves. A slim skirt can even be cut from dense fabrics, but in that case you should add a sufficiently deep vent at the back or side, which requires pattern adjustments.

## Tutu skirt

To create an airy look, chiffon and tulle are traditionally used in several layers.
