Interesting Fabrics β Creating Texture by Hand
How do you turn plain, smooth fabric into something textured? I suggest checking out a simple way to create a designer-like material π
To transform your fabric, choose a thin but fairly stiff material that holds its shape well. Pair it with a dense mesh of a matching shade β place it on the wrong side of the fabric.
For convenience, you will need floral wire β bend the edge into a loop about 3 mm in diameter beforehand.
Place the wire between the fabric and the mesh, and sew a line from the wrong side. The wire should be long enough so that the ends protrude freely beyond the edge of the fabric. Keep the stitch spacing at 3-4 mm.
Finally, the most interesting part )) Use the wire loop to catch a wool thread and pull it into the fabric "tunnel".
Trim the excess yarn, and you will get this result on the mesh side:
On the right side, the texture turns out very distinct and pleasant to the touch.
You can also sew the lines with a slight offset, leaving 1-2 mm of empty space between them.
In this case, the pattern changes β the stripes become more pronounced.
You can achieve an even more interesting effect by varying the number of pulled-through threads. For example, the pattern could consist of 2 pulled threads, one "empty" tunnel, 1 pulled thread, and so on in a cycle. The number of empty rows between the raised lines can also vary β there is plenty of room for creativity here π

I've seen a similar technique, only the fabrics were swapped: the mesh was the front side. In that case, it's very interesting to experiment with colored/contrasting cords β it creates an unusual translucent pattern that shows through the mesh π
