The most budget-friendly way to transform any room's interior
I was inspired to transform my room by a section in a hardware store where shelves were filled with decorative stone. However, the price of such finishing material is quite high. I decided to use my imagination and think about what I could use to make a similar "decorative brick" myself.
To make these "bricks," you will need:
- Styrofoam sheets, no more than 1 cm thick;
- A tape measure or tailor's measuring tape;
- A utility knife;
- A pencil;
- A soldering iron;
- Glue for Styrofoam (liquid nails, silicone, or Dragon glue).
On the Styrofoam sheet, make marks every 4.5 cm and draw lines. Divide the Styrofoam into 3 equal parts and cut out your "bricks."
Heat up the soldering iron and use the hot tip to create a texture that mimics decorative brick. If you prefer, you can skip this step and use Styrofoam that already has a textured, decorative surface.
Apply glue to the back of the "decorative brick" and stick it to the wall.
You can glue these "bricks" edge-to-edge or with small gaps. If you decorated the wall with gaps, you need to remove any excess glue between the "bricks" and paint the "seams." The work is done, and decorating the wall cost us next to nothing!
We did this at our summer house too, only we used putty instead of plaster.
We marked it out with masking tape and applied the putty (with the consistency of liquid sour cream) to the wall with a roller. After it dried, we removed the masking tape and painted the wall. And here is what happened. We added an extra shade with a contrasting color using a sponge.
