DIY Jute New Year Lamps: Easy Rustic Sphere Tutorial

Making beautiful large spheres to decorate your home for the New Year is very simple. They are easy to make, and you can invite your children to join in on the fun. For the base, you will need a few balloons, jute twine, and PVA glue. Inflate the balloons and tie them off. It is better to use round balloons rather than oval ones. Soak the twine in a container of PVA glue; the twine should be thoroughly saturated. Wrap the balloons tightly with the twine and let them dry. It is best to hang the balloons somewhere while they dry.

Once the spheres are dry, pop the balloon and remove the rubber. Don't be alarmed if it comes out in pieces; that is expected. Now you can paint the base with spray paint or acrylics. Weave a string of lights into the sphere. You're done.

But this is not the only way to decorate the spheres. You can coat them with glue again and sprinkle them with glitter, or glue on large crystals or bows. This same method is used to make round lampshades for rustic and boho-style chandeliers and floor lamps.

The strength of the ball depends directly on the glue. If you use PVA glue, specifically the M grade (furniture glue), then after drying, the threads hold their shape well and don't break.

I've always used construction PVA. Not just for balls, but for everything)) It's always better quality than the stationery kind.

At our school, these balls are always a must-have, no matter the holiday. In the spring, they are decorated with paper leaves and flowers, and in the winter with tinsel and garlands. To get the balls right on the first try, there are a couple of tips: it's better to wrap the balloon in plastic wrap right after inflating it. Then it won't dry out from the glue and stick firmly to the threads. And second: glue leaves streaks on the surface of the balloon that you have to cut out later. But if you grease the balloon with baby oil, that doesn't happen: the glue rolls into little balls that can be easily removed by hand.

I want to make some like these this year, but small ones. I have a small inflatable ball, about 10 cm in diameter. Do you think it will be possible to get it out, or is it better to buy a bunch of small disposable ones?
These decorations can also be hung on the Christmas tree, they look very festive!

When you pop balloons, they don't come out in one piece, but in chunks - they stick to the glue. Even when you pop the balloon, it stays stuck to the threads. That's why disposable balloons are better.
