How to Turn an Ordinary Office Chair into a Stylish Armchair
If you have a classic, inexpensive office chair, you can turn it into a worthy piece of furniture β an elegant, upholstered armchair.

This is what the chair looked like before the transformation.

To start, flip the chair over and paint the legs. I primed them and then sprayed them with gray spray paint. The frame of our armchair will be a hula hoop (I recommend using a metal one, or one made of sturdy, rigid plastic). Attach the hula hoop with metal drywall track. If you can't do this on your own, ask the men in your life for help π.

Cover the back and seat with foam, trimming off any excess overhanging edges.

Cover the armchair with fabric, sewing the loose edges together underneath the seat. Our armchair is ready β go ahead and use it!

I used furniture foam that was 5 cm thick. But you can use thicker foam too. You can also "build up" the thickness you need from several pieces of thin foam β the quality of the finished piece won't suffer.
Before you start working with the foam, I'd suggest laying the piece of foam on a stool or another hard surface with firm edges and corners β that way you'll be able to tell whether you need to add more thickness or not.
