How to update an old fleece blanket

Many of us have a bedspread or fleece blanket at home that has lost its appeal, faded, or worn out. To avoid parting with your favorite textile, you can give it a brand-new look and extend its life for several more years. To do this, we will use a patchwork technique and leftover fabric scraps (old clothes).

## How to update a blanket

First, we need to cut squares measuring 20 by 20 cm from the fabric scraps. It is not necessary to match the fabric by color; it can even be different in texture. For a double bedspread, you need to prepare 38 such squares; for a smaller blanket, you can calculate the amount yourself.

Sew the squares into strips that match the width of the blanket. Once the pieces are ready, start assembling the new blanket.

Pin the first strip, then place the second strip right sides together against it. Make sure the seams between the elements align!

Stitch all the strips one by one to cover the surface of the blanket, leaving 5 cm on the sides. Next, you need to cut binding for the edge finish. Sew it together from fabric into one long strip.

Place the binding right sides together against the edge of the blanket, baste or pin it, and then stitch it on.

Next, fold the fabric to the wrong side, create a hem, and sew it by hand.
