How to Sew a Round Sock Cushion
Decorative cushions can brighten a living room, bedroom, or child’s room. This project turns six pairs of matching socks or no-show socks and a small piece of fabric from an old shirt or T-shirt into a round cushion.
Cutting the pieces
Cut away the worn sections of the socks, then cut each sock open along one side of its fold.
Fold the pieces at an angle as shown and use scissors to cut two triangles from each sock.
Sewing the sock cushion
Arrange the triangles in a circle and stitch them together one at a time by machine or by hand. Try different colour and pattern combinations as you assemble the circle.
Square up the circle and trim the excess. Cut a matching backing piece to the same size.
Place the panels right sides together and stitch around them, leaving an opening for turning.
Turn the cover right side out and fill it with cushion or toy stuffing suited to the intended use.
A large button can be sewn at the centre as decoration.
Six pairs of women’s no-show socks make a small cushion about 28–30 cm (11–12 in) across.
This is a decorative cushion, not an infant sleep product. Check seams and filling regularly; keep buttons and other detachable decorations away from young children. Use scissors, hand needles, and sewing machines with appropriate supervision, and keep sharp tools secured when not in use.
I made chair pads from old jeans using a similar method. You can combine different shades of blue or use a single colour. Another option is to sew the pieces into a circle, stitch each "petal", and only then add the filling. It makes a very full flower-shaped cushion.
