How to properly use leftover burlap or an unusual trivet made from nothing

If you have old burlap or woven linen sacks, don't rush to throw them away; they can be useful for sewing a charming and very stylish hot pad.

If you are using old burlap, it is recommended to wash it. If the burlap is new, you can skip this step. Cut the fabric into strips with a width and length optimal for the size of your future trivet.

P.S. This method is also great for weaving floor mats, though it will take a bit more work😉

You need to finish the edges of each fabric strip. To do this, sew small strips of fabric to the edges to hide the raw ends.

Cut a circle out of burlap to the desired size to serve as the base.

To make the work easier, I suggest securing the burlap strips to your work surface using adhesive tape (masking tape).

Weave the secured strips in a checkerboard pattern with other burlap strips.

Glue or sew the burlap base onto the woven fabric.

Trim the excess edges and even everything out to match the base. Finish the edges with bias tape or a separate strip of fabric.

The trivet mat is ready! And most importantly, you didn't need to buy a single new material to make it!
