How to make a pillow from scrap materials or giving old things a second life
Nothing to do, it was an evening... Sound familiar? One such evening, I had the idea to sort through my closet, where I found many old and unfashionable sweaters. I didn't have the ideas or the desire to decorate them or turn them into something fancy, so I thought about making a cool decorative pillow out of one of the sweaters. Judge for yourself what came of it!☺
## To make the decorative pillow, you will need:
- an old sweater;
- sewing supplies;
- buttons;
- beads;
- soft stuffing;
- small pieces of fleece.
I didn't have to think long about the pattern. I let my imagination run wild, focusing on a cat theme. We drew a sketch and proceeded.
Drafting the pattern is even easier: fold the drawing in half, trace it, and draw additional lines.
We follow the same principle for the paws, tail, and other parts.
Let's start cutting. You can cut the pieces either folded in half or laid out flat; just remember that you need two of each piece.
These are the pieces we ended up with.
Pin each fragment of the pillow together in pairs and sew them. Don't forget to leave a small opening for stuffing the pillow.
At this stage of the work, it seemed to me that for small parts, it is better to make the opening for turning and stuffing not on the side seams, but directly on the piece itself.
Turn all the pieces right side out and stuff them with soft filler. Sew the openings on the small parts closed with a blind stitch by hand.
Sew the nose and eyes on with a blind stitch, attaching the parts firmly along the seam. Sew beads onto the eyes. Additionally, embroider a mouth for our kitty and secure it with a blanket stitch.
Sew a button onto each paw and attach them to the cat's body.
Don't forget about the tail. Create the imitation of toes on the paws.
Embroider whiskers on the face.
The result is this "big cat"!))
The tail is just sewn to the kitty's "bottom" without a button, along the seam, using the same principle as the nose and eyes. At first, I intended for the tail to be simple and unstuffed, but after holding it up to the body, I realized it lacked volume, so the tail immediately became soft, just like its owner)) Overall, a button could have worked, but if you use this pillow for its intended purpose—and I'm sure the kids will do just that after playing actively with it—the button on the tail would get in the way.
