DIY Denim Jacket: Giving Old Clothes a Second Life
Denim never goes out of style. If you don't have a denim jacket yet, you don't have to buy one. You can make it yourself from clothes you no longer wear. Lately, I've been craving more bright colors and something original and unusual (it must be the spring effect). I suggest making this unique hippie-style denim jacket, which even a teenager can handle.
To make this jacket, you will need:
- an old denim shirt;
- knitting yarn;
- scissors;
- crochet hook;
- knitting needle;
- thick needle.
Lay the shirt out on a flat surface. Determine the waistline and, without hesitation, cut off everything below the marked line.
Starting 1.5-2 cm from the cut edge, use a thick knitting needle or a needle to punch holes in the fabric.
Work a single crochet into the very first hole. In each subsequent hole, work two single crochets.
After that, you need to work two more rows of the same stitches.
Move on to finishing the back. To do this, button up the shirt and lay it flat on a surface with the back facing up. Start cutting the shirt from the beginning of the sleeve (after the cuff). There is no strict rule on how to make the cut, so follow your own sense of taste and style. The main thing to remember is that if the original garment fit you snugly, it is better to just make a slit; if the shirt was loose, you should cut out the exact width of fabric that you plan to fill with crochet.
Crochet around the cut edges just like you did for the bottom edges of the garment.
Now let your imagination run wild. Add other yarn colors or work several rows in one color. Join the edges of the rows with a needle and thread.
