Dyed Fur and Myths That Are Considered Reality
I recently started thinking about buying a fur-trimmed coat. My husband and I went shopping, and he was very firm that we wouldn't be getting anything with dyed fur. He claimed it's poor quality, will shed, stain other clothes, and is difficult to care for. At first, I didn't mind, but then I saw a coat—or a parka, I'm not sure what to call it—that had dyed fur, and it looked incredibly cool. Naturally, our opinions clashed, we had a bit of an argument, and we went home empty-handed, deciding to look into how dyed fur actually behaves. As it turns out, it's not as bad as we thought.
I'm sharing the most popular myths about dyed fur that you shouldn't believe. What do people think?**
Many people think that:
- dye ruins the fur, causing it to deteriorate and fray faster;
- the dye bleeds while being worn and leaves stains on clothing;
- the color is short-lived. The color won't last long.
## Why do people think this?
I want to explain a little why my husband was so against it that it led to an argument. It's because there is a 16-year age gap between us, and when I was still a child, he already knew about these materials and the methods used to dye them (which, by the way, people still talk about, but you shouldn't repeat). Those methods were not durable because nobody cared about quality back then.
## Debunking the myth
Dyeing fur requires special agents and equipment (potassium dichromate, copper sulfate, etc.) that were very hard to find in the past, so fur was often dyed using "makeshift" methods with whatever was on hand. Consequently, the quality of the dyeing was extremely low. Nowadays, everything is much higher quality, so you don't need to worry about the dye ruining anything or bleeding.
> Important! Sunlight damages both dyed and natural fur. Light shades lose their appearance much faster, and yellowing becomes visible almost immediately.
And to back up my words, I'm sharing some pictures of what dyed fur looks like:

Maybe I was just lucky, but 8-9 years ago, when the total trend for dyed fur first started, I had two coats in rotation - one peach, the other ash-lilac. I wore the peach one until it was completely worn out because I loved it so much )) But neither the first nor the second shed even a little bit.
