Itchy Wool: Archive Note and Care Limits
This is an archive note about itchy wool. Itchiness depends on the particular fibre, diameter, processing, yarn, fabric construction, and skin sensitivity; labels such as combed or shorn wool do not by themselves prove softness, price, or absence of irritation.

There is no universal way to make wool soft. Laundry or hair conditioner, shampoo, vinegar, citric acid, freezing, steam, and ironing may not help and can change fit, colour, fibre, or finish. Do not treat the archive's timings or proportions as instructions; follow the care label first and test any permitted method on an inconspicuous swatch.
If wool causes itching, redness, rash, or other discomfort, stop wearing it against the skin. Do not call wool hypoallergenic without substantiation or use home treatment to address an allergy. For a valuable item or uncertain fibre content, consult the maker, a textile-care professional, or a dry cleaner.

The archive comment suggested diluted vinegar or citric acid with ironing. [Editor's safety note: This is not a universal softening method. Acids, moisture, and heat can affect dye, fibre, fit, or finish; follow the care label and do not use the archive's concentrations or timings.]
