How to Make a Simple Organizer from Everyday Materials

A little more from the series: The second life of old things. Many of us don't throw away used bottles, boxes, or tubes because we know how to give them a second life. There are especially many options for crafting with old cardboard tubes from paper towels, toilet paper, etc. I suggest an interesting idea for creating a desktop organizer that will suit both stationery and kitchen utensils.

For making this organizer I needed:

• a linoleum tube (you can buy one cheaply at any hardware store or market; if you ask, you may get one for free);
• scissors;
• paper napkins;
• PVA glue;
• grains, pasta, seeds (use whatever your imagination suggests);
• Moment.

Cut the cardboard tube into sections of the desired height and make a small angled cut. Wrap the resulting tubes with paper napkins, like in decoupage, and let dry. It's not necessary to use patterned napkins — they can be any napkins or scraps you didn't use before. Later the surface of the tubes will be painted and the napkins won't be visible.

Glue the prepared pieces together with Moment glue.

From a separate piece of cardboard make an arc that will be the rim of our organizer. Glue it to our tubes. Place the assembled structure on a piece of cardboard, trace it, and cut it out.

Cover the edges of the cardboard around the whole structure with twisted napkin cords (braids).

Let's start decorating the organizer. Everything depends on your imagination. I chose split peas and shaped pasta. Glue them onto the structure with PVA glue.

I decided to paint everything with black acrylic paint and cover selected elements with "gold and silver".

The second organizer, decorated with pumpkin seeds and peas, was made as a gift.
