Christmas Stocking Ornament: Hand-Sewn from Fabric Scraps
I had accumulated a lot of tiny fabric scraps and decided to put them to good use by sewing a Christmas stocking for the tree. They turned out to be very cute ornaments; if you make them larger, you can fill the Christmas stocking with candy or tangerines as a holiday gift.
To create the fabric for the stocking, I used the "crazy quilt" technique, sewing pieces of fabric together with a backstitch without any specific pattern. Then, I pressed the patchwork block, folded it in half, and cut out the stocking shape. The most interesting part of the work was embellishing it with decorative stitches. It took me one evening to embroider; I used herringbone, feather, blanket, and whip stitches with regular sewing thread doubled. Various buttons also came in handy.
I sewed the finished stocking inside out, turned it right side out, and hemmed the top edge. The photo doesn't show the loop yet; I'll buy some thin satin ribbon today to make a loop for hanging the soft ornament on the tree. You should definitely try making these cute items with your children; my daughter was delighted and even set aside her favorite polymer clay, which she is currently using to make snowman decorations for mugs.
I've come across such ideas on the internet, they are just fabulously beautiful! A real lady's boot with a heel, made of pieces of velvet, lace, and trim. If I find the time, I'll try to sew one and share it with the fellow craftswomen!
