How to make a gift box "out of nothing": interesting packaging decor
Often, when we give small gifts to loved ones or friends, the problem of packaging arises. Putting it in a regular bag is not the best option, and buying expensive packaging for a small gift makes no sense. For such cases, you can decorate a gift box using materials found in every home. I use my favorite crazy quilt technique, where you can apply decorative stitches, beads, and rhinestones to create a unique pattern.
What you will need for the project:
- Any fabric scraps: denim, silk, velour, satin, small pieces of lace.
- Base: cotton fabric. The size of the piece should be about 30 cm.
- Decorating materials: small colored buttons, beads, seed beads, embroidery ribbons. You can use ready-made artificial flowers.
- Hot glue.
How to make gift packaging from a box
First, you need to take measurements. Measure the diameter of the lid (mine is round), the height, and the length of the side.
Cut out a circle to fit the lid with a 1.5-2 cm seam allowance. Place a small scrap of fabric in the center, pin the next one, contrasting in color, to it, and sew. Cover the entire fabric in the crazy quilt technique; I wrote about how to sew this in previous posts on this topic. When the block is ready, trim the excess fabric and secure it with a seam along the perimeter.
Start embellishing. Use different types of decorative stitches to embroider sprigs; make flowers from thin ribbon or embroider with satin stitch; you can also use French knots. Don't forget to embroider along the seam lines where the scraps join to unite them into a whole.
Do the same for the side decoration, but embellish the fabric cut to your measurements, leaving a free edge of about 3-4 cm. We will fold it inward and glue it down.
Decoration
Using hot glue, attach the circle of embellished fabric to the lid, make notches, and glue down the edge. Hide the seam by gluing on a silk ribbon or trim. You can additionally decorate the edge of the lid with beads.
Glue the embellished block onto the side with hot glue. Fold and hide the seam. After making notches, glue the bottom part onto the base as well.
Fold the free edge inward, glue it, and decorate the edge with trim or ribbon.
Our gift box is ready. You can put a soft cushion made of velvet or velour inside, which will make jewelry look great.

Inside you can store small items that are always getting lost, and the lid is made three-dimensional like a pin cushion.
