Is custom tailoring cheap — a myth? A bit about pricing
I only sew for myself. I've never done bespoke work. But several times acquaintances have asked me to sew one thing or another. They were very surprised when I quoted the approximate cost of fabric+labor, wondering — why go to all that trouble if you can buy a ready-made item cheaper. I had to explain that a made-to-order garment is already in the luxury category, not a saving, and the advantages of custom tailoring.
Advantages of custom tailoring:
- Exclusive pieces;
- Perfect fit for your figure;
- Ability to choose high-quality materials;
- Ability to replicate runway designer models.
Although I don't sew to order, experienced instructors who have worked with orders for many years taught us how to determine the cost of sewing.
The price of the work consists of:
- Cost of fabric and additional materials, because if the maker can't get something right, they will have to buy that material themselves. Some makers even require a receipt for materials or go to the store with the client.
- A trip to the store is usually paid for separately and depends on how far the maker has to travel.
- Each complicating element of the garment (pocket, pleats, structural detailing) + 30 UAH.
