How to transform a T-shirt with buttons
When faced with the "nothing to wear" dilemma, you have to make a quick decision: how to restyle a T-shirt in one evening. I suggest doing it with a strip of fabric and some buttons. Why this idea? Because most of us have a huge stash of buttons, perhaps even inherited from our grandmothers 🙂
What you will need:
- A long bias tape for finishing the neckline.
- 6 strips of fabric of different lengths for the front decoration.
- Buttons of the same color. Size and shape do not matter; mismatched buttons from old clothes will work perfectly.
## How to finish the neckline
You don't need to hem the edges of the bias tape; this creates a slightly distressed, casual effect. Create pleats on the tape; if your sewing machine has a special foot for this, it will make the task easier.
Baste the tape around the neckline; there is no need to join the ends. Stitch it on using a stretch stitch.
## Decorating the front
Create pleats on fabric strips of equal width. Baste and stitch them on in a ladder pattern.
## The best part - button decoration
Sew buttons onto each pleat; you can also choose beads or large bugle beads. Task accomplished! The T-shirt will look completely new, and you could even wear it to a party.
Cool idea! I think this can save a favorite T-shirt with a little stain or hole. ;)
I'll suggest another option I once saw on a decorative pillow — a big heart made of sewn-on buttons. Just trace the heart shape on the T-shirt and sew on buttons in the same tone but different sizes. Start at the edges and gradually move toward the center. A designer piece for pennies. :)
