Textile bowl cover in half an hour
It often happens that certain containers or bowls don't have a matching lid. This can cause various inconveniences, as food in such containers can not only dry out, but also release odors that spread throughout the fridge. Of course, you can use plastic wrap, but it's not economical, and food can "suffocate" and spoil under the film even in a cool environment. I suggest sewing a textile cover, the size of which you choose specifically for your own dishes. By the way, such a cover can be washed and used indefinitely 😉
To sew this accessory, you will need:
- bias tape;
- elastic band;
- laminated cotton (if you don't have any, you can use regular cotton and thick oilcloth).
Trace the size of the container (bowl, tray, pot, mold) directly onto the fabric. When preparing the pattern, don't forget to add 3-4 cm around the entire contour.
Sew the bias tape along the edge of the piece. Pay attention here: leave 2-3 cm unstitched so that you can thread the elastic through.
Thread the elastic and secure it. Check how snugly the cover fits, and only then sew up the remaining opening.
I liked the idea. If you really use laminated fabric or add an extra layer of polyethylene, such lids could also be used for salads and meat. In that case, the products won't dry out, and the smell will stay inside the container. By the way, such a lid would be convenient to use outdoors. For example, you've gathered for a picnic, all the food is set out, and you've gone off to play or walk around. You cover the container, and flies, gnats, and other flying or crawling things won't feast on your goodies))
