How to shorten shoelaces and finish the tips nicely

Foreword: we bought new boots for our son and they came with 1.5-meter (!) laces. Cutting them to the right length is easy. But how do you finish the tips so they don't fray? 😕

By the way, I didn't know that the tip of a shoelace is called an AGLET, can you imagine? Well, now you know too 😄

Anyway, we found 2 options online. I'll say right away that I liked the first one for its simplicity and accessibility: you just need clear tape, which is definitely in every home. Cut a narrow strip, wrap it tightly around the tip of the lace – and that's basically it )) You can add a tiny drop of PVA glue into the tape "tube" for extra security. Here is what it looks like in the end:

But my husband came up with a way to make it look nicer 😊 You need a narrow piece of heat-shrink tubing, a lighter (or the flame from a kitchen stove), and 2 minutes of free time.

If necessary, remove the original tip.

Choose the length of the heat-shrink tubing.

Cut it and slide the heat-shrink onto the lace.

Very carefully move the tip of the lace near the flame: the tube shrinks from the heat and tightly grips the lace.

Safety note: when using a lighter, candle, or stove flame, keep the lace moving, work away from children and flammable materials, and stop immediately if the cord starts to smoke or melt unevenly.
