Sewing Father Frost for Under the Christmas Tree: Pattern and Step-by-Step Tutorial

This Santa Claus (aka Father Frost, aka Saint Nicholas) is a great way not only to decorate your home, but also to give a little gift to little ones! Inside the pouch that comes with the toy, you can put coins, candies, and tangerines—I highly recommend it. 😉

To make this, you will need:
for Santa
• a piece of thick red felt, 70x40 cm;
• a piece of brown felt, 20x20 cm;
• a piece of beige felt, 20x20 cm;
• a cut of white plush fabric, 40x40 cm;
for the bag
• jute fabric, 160x53 cm;
• 24 pre-cut pieces, 8x8 cm, from the same fabric;
• green velvet ribbon, 70 cm;
• red marker;
• thread;
• pins;
• sewing machine;
• printed pattern.

Enlarge it to the following dimensions: 60 cm in height and 32 cm in width.

Father Frost
First, cut out the pattern as a whole from red felt, then cut out the individual pieces: trace and cut the pieces for the face, beard, and boots from felt, and the trim strips and pom-pom from plush. Pin the pieces to the red base and sew them on by hand. Embroider the eyes with black thread. Draw the cheeks with a red marker.
The Bag
Fold the jute fabric piece in half crosswise. Mark the fold line with a pencil and unfold.
Number the pockets with the red marker (write numbers from 1 to 24), pin them one by one to the bag, and sew them on using a zigzag stitch. Fold the bag in half again and stitch the side edges (1 cm seam allowances are included). Turn the pouch right side out and press the edges with an iron. Fill the pouch with tangerines and the numbered pockets with candies. Cinch the pouch with the velvet ribbon.
Display Father Frost in a prominent spot and place the pouch of treats next to him. Every day starting December 7, open the pockets with your little one to reveal mini surprises. 😉
