Sewing a Bunny Costume
Step 1
With the winter holidays approaching, it is time to think about a costume for children. I previously described how to sew a mouse or rat costume for a holiday party; now I am sharing patterns and a short tutorial for sewing a bunny costume for a child ages 4–5.

Prepare the following:

gray plush fabric—1.4 m with a fabric width of 1.5 m;

pink fleece for the ears—80 × 16 cm;

white plush—27 × 12 cm;

white long-pile faux fur—10 × 6 cm;

a 25 cm zipper;

On a large sheet of poster board or tracing paper, draft the pattern; all dimensions are shown in the photo, and the draft is for a child ages 4–5.

Cut two of each of these pieces from gray plush:

Sew the front and back together along the blue and green pattern lines. This creates the left and right halves of the jumpsuit.

Sew the center seams and insert the zipper at the back.

Turn up the pant-leg edges by about 1 cm, leaving the last couple of centimeters unstitched.

Insert elastic into the resulting casing—20 cm in each pant leg.

Sew the sleeves, turn them up by 5 mm, and stitch the hems. Set the sleeves into the armholes.

Cut the shirtfront from white plush: cut a 22 × 12 cm rectangle and gently round one short edge. Sew the piece to the chest area of the front.

Use the remaining white plush for the tail. Fold a 5 cm-wide strip in half with the furry side inward, stitch the long edges, turn it right side out, gather the open edge, and sew the tail to the jumpsuit.

Cut the hood from gray plush. Turn the edges of the piece up by 1 cm, leaving room to thread the elastic through, and make the casing.
Step 28
Cut the ears: two pieces each from plush and fleece. Place them right sides together, stitch, turn them right side out, and sew the opening closed.
Step 29
Fold the ears along the grainline with the fleece inside, then sew them to the hood.
