How to Hand-Sew a Fun Sleep Mask

Those who enjoy lounging in bed know how much morning light can interfere with rest. To protect your eyes, you can sew a sleep mask, which will also come in handy on a train or plane. Children will appreciate such an accessory too; it is easy to make one for them in the shape of a funny owl or another favorite animal.

A Few Words About the Pattern
I do not offer a ready-made pattern template for the mask; it is easy to make one yourself in the required size. It is best to use cardboard or thick paper that you can trace with a pen, chalk, or pencil.
Sewing Steps
Step 1
Cut the lower part of the mask from black or dark fabric, and the upper part from fabric in a suitable color.

Trace 2 round templates on white felt and cut them out without seam allowances; these will be the eye pieces. For the beak, you will need a small triangle of yellow or orange felt.

Embroider the eye pieces by hand. You can also sew on flat buttons or small beads.

Sew on the eyes with a needle and thread, using running stitches. Sew the beak in the center of the mask.

Measure the length of the elastic. It should be flat, wide enough, and comfortable. Place the elastic between the two layers of the mask and sew all around the edge, using a blanket stitch.
