As someone who embroiders regularly and has tried pretty much every method out there, I can tell you for sure: a floor stand is VERY comfortable! You get direct access to any part of the picture, including the back — you can flip the frame over and set it at any angle.
Though if you're used to holding the base fabric in your hands, it'll take some time to retrain yourself to work with both hands at once. For me, that took about a week. I didn't want to go back to snaps — now they're just a travel accessory.
You also need to mentally prepare for the fact that the stand will take up part of your apartment. That's the only downside. If you don't have your own embroidery corner, you'll end up dragging it around the whole apartment like a suitcase with no handle 🤭

She bought a portable stand and wasn't happy with it. The reasons — when the thing sits on her knees, there's no way to turn the frame, and having a perfect back matters a lot to her. How do floor stands compare? Ladies, give me some solid advice! I embroider on a table, it's way more comfortable for me that way, so I can't really recommend anything.
