Christmas Village – Winter Box Decor

Simple wooden blanks always offer endless room for creativity. They are like a blank canvas waiting to be filled with anything. What, for example, could be remarkable about an ordinary plywood box? And yet, it can become a gift box, an exquisite keepsake box, or a stylish mini box. If you want the packaging itself to be a memorable gift, see how you can transform a basic blank.

In scrapbook stores, you can find a wonderful craft supply known as chipboard pieces—ready-made cutouts made from dense cellulose cardboard. These little pieces usually come in sets, and they are great for achieving impressive results.
Mine are small plywood houses in different shapes—the perfect way to quickly "grow" a real Christmas village on the surface of a plain box.

You can attach the pieces using furniture-grade PVA glue, but if you want a sturdy, high-quality hold, I recommend Mod Podge.

To leave no doubt about the seasonal theme of the keepsake box, I decided to pick up some snowflake chipboards and create a real snowfall over the town 😉

The assorted sizes of the snowflakes only worked in our favor, creating a dimensional, almost lifelike scene.

To give the town a magical nighttime look, you'll need paint and tinting. But first, priming is a must.

Paint the night sky with a gradient: darker in the center and lighter along the edges.

To add texture to the design, gently apply white paint using a dry sponge.

At this point, the makeover can be considered complete, but if you want to go further and turn the gift box into a keepsake box, simply screw a handle onto the lid and decorative feet onto the bottom.
