Epoxy resin is a relatively new material in the craft world, but it has already gained many fans. From small items like pendants, bracelets, and rings to large pieces like tabletops and paintings, the possibilities are endless. There is even a dedicated movement for creating resin paintings called Resin Art.

First and foremost, a beginner needs to know that there are two types of resin: decorative and jewelry-grade. Jewelry-grade resin is very clear, sold in relatively small volumes, and is more expensive. It is used for creating jewelry. Decorative resin is used for larger items like tabletops or resin art. It is cheaper and sold in larger containers, but it is not as clear as the jewelry-grade version. Therefore, before buying resin, consider what you intend to make with it.

Secondly, resin takes a long time to cure. The fastest-curing resin takes eight hours, and most take much longer. A complex piece can consist of 10-15 layers, so you can do the math on how much time goes into such a project. This type of craft doesn't suit everyone's temperament. Thirdly, if you decide to work with resin, you need a workshop. A separate, enclosed space where there will be no pets or dust. When resin is curing, you must protect it from dust particles, otherwise, the piece will look messy. As for pet hair, it goes without saying—you don't want a fuzzy pendant, do you?

And finally, this is an expensive hobby. Be prepared for significant expenses—resin costs quite a bit, and in addition to it, you need tools and consumables such as bases, dried flowers, and pigments. So, before buying your first epoxy kit, weigh all the pros and cons.
