How to Make a Fabric-and-Thread Flower Brooch

The simplest outfit wins when you pair it with the right accessory. A handmade brooch will go well with a scarf, and works as decor for a headband, hat, or beret. You can even use it instead of a large button on a coat — it all depends on your imagination.

What you'll need

1. A piece of dense felt for the base.
2. A narrow strip of fabric (solid-colored or printed).
3. Knitting/crochet thread to match your future brooch.
4. A crochet hook.
5. Beads, rhinestones, seed beads.
6. Hot glue.
7. A clasp finding.

How to make the brooch

Cut a circle out of the felt (you can trace the bottom of a small glass). Glue down the end of the fabric strip and secure it further with a needle and thread.

Folding the fabric to one side, wind it neatly around the base, tacking it down with hot glue at a few points.

Step 3

Fill the entire surface of the felt base. Secure the end of the fabric.

Step 4

Crochet a flower a bit larger in diameter than the base. Make the second flower from thread in a similar color, but with more petals.

Assembly

Layer the brooch in this order: the large flower, the medium one, then the fabric rose. Stitch them together, and decorate the center with beads or seed beads. Sew a clasp onto the back of the brooch. You can make several of these flowers and combine them into one composition.
