Like when we were kids — making a festive paper garland
You've probably seen how supermarkets have dressed up their sales floors for the upcoming holidays? In our store they hung such interesting hanging garlands above the checkouts that I wanted to make something similar for our home windows.
Of course, we could have made the hangings from ready-made styrofoam shapes — they’re sold in any décor shop. But we decided to take the simplest route and spend time with the kids cutting out shapes from ordinary office paper.
We used all the symbols of the upcoming holidays: we downloaded silhouettes of snowflakes, angels, trees, baubles, and stars from the web. Tracing them onto paper and cutting along the outlines was the most energy-consuming task, but the kids didn’t complain ))
They were the ones who suggested using a hole punch to add texture to the simplest shapes.
After that came the pleasant stage of assembly. To make each hanging we needed long strips of paper. We simply cut them into segments and threaded our shaped blanks between them.
We arranged the finished hangings by length so the figures complemented each other, and taped them to the frame with clear tape. It turned out simple and festive, especially from the street side. How do you like our garland?
