Beginner Soap-Making Starter Kit: An Archival List
A well-stocked soap-making shop can make it difficult to choose what to buy. One common beginner mistake is trying to buy everything at once; the archived companion article on beginner soap-making mistakes discusses this in more detail.
Based on the author's experience, a small starter kit is enough. The items can be bought together or separately.
Starter supplies listed in the source
- 1–2 kg of white and clear melt-and-pour soap base. The source recommends using base made in England and staying with one manufacturer; its listed price was up to 150 UAH per kilogram.
- Olive oil, or almond oil as an alternative. The source lists a 100 mg bottle for 35 UAH; the unit appears inconsistent and should be checked on the actual product before purchase.
- Essential oils or fragrance oils for scent. The source suggests starting with two or three fragrances, listed at 13–20 UAH each.
- A few colorants. The archived prices were 5 UAH for a water-soluble colorant and 15 UAH for a liquid pigment.
- A soap mold. The source mentions improvised molds and lists an average purchased-mold price of 50 UAH; use only clean, stable, heat-safe containers intended for craft work.
- Rubbing alcohol for removing surface bubbles, listed at 5 UAH. Keep it away from heat, sparks, and open flames, and work with good ventilation.
- Plastic mixing cups and stirring sticks. Check that the cups are heat-safe and compatible with the temperature specified for your soap base.
The source estimated the total at about 500 UAH and said the supplies could be enough to make one bar a day for a month. These are historical prices and an approximate yield, not current purchasing guidance.

This archived list concerns ready-made melt-and-pour soap base, not soap made from lye. Follow the base, colorant, and fragrance manufacturers' instructions and usage limits. Work in a ventilated area, protect your eyes and skin, keep hot materials and alcohol away from children and pets, and do not use craft utensils for food afterward. Stop using the finished soap if it causes irritation.
