Homemade Shaving Cream: Two Archived DIY Recipes
This archived post shares two homemade, oil-based shaving-cream recipes from the author. They are alternatives to commercial products, not a promise of better results for every person or skin type.

Essential oils in these recipes are optional fragrance ingredients, not treatments for skin. The source suggests lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary, citrus, mint, tea tree, jasmine, and geranium, but suitability and safe concentration depend on the exact product and user.
- lavender
- eucalyptus
- rosemary
- citrus
- mint
- tea tree
- jasmine
- geranium
A smell test or a single undiluted drop on the skin cannot rule out allergy or irritation. Do not apply essential oils undiluted. Use only a product labeled for topical use, follow its dermal-dilution guidance, and omit fragrance if you have sensitive, irritated, or damaged skin. Keep the mixture away from the eyes and stop using it if burning, redness, or a rash develops.
Recipe No. 1
- 4 tbsp shea butter
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tbsp jojoba oil
- optional: 10 drops lavender essential oil, only if compatible with the product’s topical-use guidance
Melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler, then stir in the jojoba oil. Let the base cool before adding any optional fragrance. Whip the mixture until thick using clean, dry equipment.
Transfer the cream to a clean, dry container and use a clean, dry spatula so that water and residue do not enter the jar. The original post suggests refrigeration and a one-month shelf life, but refrigeration does not guarantee that period. Shelf life depends on ingredient freshness, handling, and storage; make a small batch and discard it if its smell, color, or texture changes or contamination is suspected.

Recipe No. 2
The second source recipe uses similar base ingredients:
- 1/3 cup shea butter
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup jojoba oil, or almond oil
- optional: 10 drops rosemary essential oil, subject to topical-use guidance
- optional: 3 drops mint essential oil, subject to topical-use guidance
Prepare it in the same way as Recipe No. 1 and follow the same hygiene, fragrance, storage, and discard precautions.
These recipes are not sex-specific: choose fragrance according to personal preference, or omit it. Do not assume that a premixed fragrance or essential-oil blend is safe for skin; use only products specifically labeled for topical use at an appropriate dilution.
