Sewing Detachable Collars: Business Style, Leather, and Retro

Detachable collars hit the fashion runways a few years ago on a wave of love for retro... and it seems they are here to stay, having become a style classic. Their main advantages are their striking look and ease of assembly. For a versatile wardrobe, five variations of collars are enough.

1. Business style. Take any unwanted men's shirt as a base and remove the part we need – the collar itself. Now it's time for creativity and imagination, which can be expressed through seed beads, pearls, rhinestones, beads, and embroidery.

2. For a romantic dress. You will need a translucent base with sequins, a piece of ribbon, and paper for a template.

3. Versatile leather collar. In addition to the main material (suede or smooth leather), you will need an awl, a fastener, and wire cutters. Fasten the halves at the front with a metal link or a ribbon.

4. Retro style. A wonderful collar can be made from white felt, which is reinforced with fusible interfacing for stiffness. You can use a hole punch along the edge, add a button or brooch to the front, and attach a romantic ribbon to the back to tie into a bow.

5. For a special occasion. A fancy collar can transform even a very modest and simple dress. For this, you can use an old necklace, rhinestones, jewelry stones, and any other shiny decorations. As a base, use a sturdy material capable of supporting the weight of the embellishments.

A statement collar can not only be sewn but also, for example, crocheted, and the look can be complemented with delicate lace or edgy studs – there are no limits.
