Storage Boxes for Small Items – Two Ways to Fold

For an active crafter, you can never have too many boxes: there are always little odds and ends that need sorting 🙃 So, I suggest learning two simple ways to fold a box from heavy colored paper or cardstock.

1. The origami method.

You need a square sheet of paper—first fold it into quarters, then diagonally. Now bring each corner of the sheet to the center.

Fold the resulting square from the top and bottom—bring the edges to the center and crease.

Unfold the square, leaving only the side triangles folded in. Stand up the side “walls.” Form the short side by folding the side triangle toward the center. Do the same on the opposite side.

These boxes are exceptionally quick to make, and thanks to printed patterns, they can look so vibrant 😍

2. Box with a flap lid.

Heavy office paper can easily handle smaller versions of this box, but if you need a larger box, it's better to use cardstock.

You will need a template like this for the project.

On the cut-out template, mark the fold lines with a black marker.

Crease along the marker lines—at this point, the box is basically ready to assemble.

Apply glue to the flaps and assemble the box.

When the box is assembled, choose the side that will become the top “lid” and cut a notch on the adjacent side for easy opening—I pointed to it with an arrow in the photo 😉
