Sewing a Simple and Stylish Bow Tie

Men's accessories and jewelry have always been in demand, and now, with the rising demand for handmade items, men's wardrobe essentials like neckties and bow ties are beyond competition. An accessory like a bow tie comes in many styles. A classic self-tie bow tie always looks luxurious and adds elegance. But not every man knows how to tie one, so I suggest sewing a pre-tied bow tie that any beginner seamstress can make.

To make this bow tie, you will need:
• a 13 × 24 cm cut of fabric (gabardine was used in this case, but you can substitute any other medium-weight non-stretch fabric);
• a 7 × 4 cm cut of fabric for the center band;
• fabric for the strap, 60 × 5 cm;
• sewing supplies;
• an iron;
• hardware;
• a glue gun.
Cut out the pieces for the center band, the strap, and the bow tie itself from the fabric. Since our bow tie will be double-layered, one of the main pieces should be 1–2 cm smaller on all sides.

Press the edges of the pieces with a heated iron. Fold each element with its edges toward the center and thoroughly press the folds. Fold the main pieces once more, from the edges toward the center. If the fabric starts to fray during the process, don't worry. Everything will be fixed in the next step.

Stitch all the pieces on a sewing machine. Sew a zigzag stitch along the main pieces, and sew a regular straight stitch on the strap piece, then turn it right side out.

Stack the main bow tie pieces together, pinch them into an accordion fold at the center, and secure them with a glue gun.

Wrap the center band around the middle of the accordion fold and secure it with a glue gun.

Thread the hardware (fasteners and slide adjuster) onto the strap. To do this, first thread the strap through the slider, then pass it through the hook and back into the slider, but from the opposite side. Sew the remaining loose end to the strap.

Thread the strap through the center band, and our bow tie is ready!
