Sewing a Belt for an Evening Dress

Every outfit, especially a festive one, needs a detail that will draw attention and flatter the figure. For me personally, one such touch is a waist-defining belt. Making one yourself in the right color, size, and with matching embellishments is not at all difficult, but the effect will be WOW! The first photo is for inspiration 😉

So, the main materials:
• fabric base (silk, velvet, or satin);
• embellishments (seed beads, bugle beads, sequins, pearls, etc.);
• fusible web;
• clear nylon thread;
• satin ribbon matching the base.

The length of the belt was 65 cm (plus 2 cm for seam allowances). Since my base is satin, I ironed a strip of interfacing onto the wrong side for stability. On the right side, I drew guide lines with a white marker to arrange the embellishments in the desired order.

For the stitching, I use invisible nylon thread and small seed beads in three different shades (turquoise, chocolate, amethyst). To do this, I string 3–4 beads onto the needle at a time, forming colored "columns" on the surface. Down the center, I ran 2 rows of medium-sized sequins.

Once the embroidery is finished, fuse a strip of woven interfacing and two strips of fusible web to the wrong side, tucking them under the already pressed edges of the belt.

Place a satin ribbon on top—it should be long enough to run through the entire belt and still tie into a full bow. Cover the ribbon with fusible web as well. Cover the whole assembly with a wide satin ribbon along the main length of the belt.
