Sew a Comforter Toy for a Newborn

Step 1

Newborns who have just entered the world find it very difficult to adapt, and Mom cannot always hold her baby in her arms. A comforter toy that Mom holds in her hands for a few minutes will help the baby feel her warmth and stay calm.

It is very important to use only natural, hypoallergenic materials when sewing this toy. You will need:
• two pieces of fabric (cotton, flannel);
• polyester batting, holofiber;
• sewing supplies.

We will sew the toy using this simple pattern.

It is important not to make the toy too large (the baby will be uncomfortable sleeping with it), but not too small either. The ideal size for a newborn comforter is A4. Transfer the pattern to the fabric, leaving seam allowances, and cut out the pieces. You should end up with 2 pieces each for the head and body, 4 ear pieces, and 1 head gusset.

Sew the body and ears with right sides together. Turn them right side out. Place small tufts of polyester batting in the toy's paws and draw the edges of the paws closed with hand stitching.

Sew a dart in the head gusset according to the pattern and pin all the head pieces together. You will get this construction.

Stitch the head, remembering to leave a small opening for stuffing with polyester batting. Attach the prepared ears to the head using a slip stitch.

Embroider the bunny's face, adding the eyes, nose, and mouth. Stuff the bunny's head with polyester batting and close the opening with a slip stitch. Our bunny is ready!
