How do you make a French knot? I'll try to provide a description and photos, but if it isn't quite clear, try finding a video (it's easier that way).
Bring the needle and ribbon up to the right side. Wrap the ribbon around the needle twice (loosely), and then, holding the ribbon with your fingers, take the needle down to the wrong side, tightening the ribbon. Note that the needle is inserted into the fabric very close to the point of entry (1-2 mm). The photo shows a needle with thread to make it clearer.
